Today I activated a Reader account and now have all kinds of theatre news coming to me automatically. Love it! Now I have to set up a Delicious account, which I will have my advanced drama students do so that we can share communication about theatre. Amazing!
I also interviewed one the the tech guys at school to learn more about how the computer system works. I am now vaguely acquainted with these words: bandwidth, broadband, pipe, feed, network, system, and Cosad (?), the big cable company. Who knew!
I also learned information about a computer so that I might be able to help my daughter with her computer problems. How about that!
Lots of exclamation marks. But it all a big Eureka for me.!!!!

So Much to learn,
THERE IS SO MUCH GREAT STUFF ON THEATRE! How am I going to sift through it all.
I have learned about text to sound programs that might help both students and adults learn lines. I found a visual search engine called KartOO about theatre that I can use for my upcoming assignment on a report on the history of theatre. I haven't even looked yet for programs for writing plays, but I know they are there.
I am looking for the best way to integrate music, images and video to project behind actors as they perform a children's play for elementary schools. My drama class will be perfroming the play. Garageband may be the best way to do that.

A New Beginning
On Jan. 20, an exciting shift happened in the world as Obama took the stage with his inaguration. Now on Jan. 22. an exciting shift occurs in my learning as I began to contemplate the possibilities open to me and my students as I become more technologized. This blog will be an attempt to process and coral the multitude of possibilities that are swirling around in my head.
1. create a student tech squad in school or at least find a student available during my class time who can assist and perhaps advance my skills. Seek out other teachers who are using google.doc.
2. set up a google.doc page for my journalism course with a spread sheet for self editing and grading with a link to a class calendar. This is doable.
3. create some multimedia for my drama class children's one act which I 'm sure is too ambitious.
procedures: give students the script which consists of a series of related skits, cast the play, discuss the projections, videos, music that could accompany at least three skits Or divide class into visuals and music and projections..
4. spend time at computers in the lab finding these materials
5. rehearse play
6. combine scripts and technology
7. perform for elementary schools with as much technology that as was possible
I hope this an energize some of my sad, disengaged students.
It was an excellent day. Steve, Connie, and Mary were warm, helpful and non-threatening. I was misplaced and elected the basic course, but was put into this one. Happly, I have gained confidence, met nice teachers and gotten charged up about what I might be able to do. Hope my hands hold out.
